Downloading ringtones for different types of cell phones

With the advancement in technology, there are thousands of cell phone models available in the market boasting hi-end features. One of which, happens to be production of full spectrum digital sounds; in other words, Ringtones. Initially, ringtones were considered only as a medium that alerted us of the incoming calls. However, today, it is more of an attention grabbing gimmick, apart from serving its basic purpose.

Ringtones can be classified into three different types namely, monophonic ringtones that play only one type of musical tone at a time; polyphonic ringtones that play several types of tones at a time; majority of the latest mobile phones include polyphonic ringtones; and lastly "truetone" or "realtone", which are encoded with high fidelity formats such as MP3, AAC or WMA format. One of the most common examples of such ringtones would be the extracts from songs which have become popular as ringtones.

These can be obtained via internet or computer hard drive or even through your friend's or relatives mobile handset. But the factor that you need to keep in mind while getting this work done is the compatibility of the ringtone format with your phone. There is no point in downloading or saving a ringtone which is not compatible with your handset, because it would never play on that handset. Hence, it is always beneficial to be aware of the formats that are compatible with your phone.

Ringtones are available in various formats such as MIDI, which is almost compatible with majority of the latest handset models, and then there are MP3, AAC, WMA, QCP, RTTTL and many more. These can be downloaded from the internet free of cost. However not all websites let you do this for free, some websites charge you a certain amount, for specific ringtones to cover song royalties.

Once you've found out your choice of ringtone on the net, the next step would be to get it into your phone's memory. There are many ways of getting this done, depending on the handset model. However some of the most common methods are:-

1.You can transfer the ringtone from your computer hard drive to your phone via a data cable

2.Transferring files though bluetooth or infrared.

3.Just send a simple text message that includes the code of the ringtone of your choice to the websites that provide the facility of sending ringtones via sms.

4.If you have a cell phone with a melody composer, you can easily make your own ringtone by using this feature to find the appropriate "keypress sequence" for a tune on the Web. You can find tons of sequences online for most phone models.

Some phones may use only one particular way method exclusively; however, many recently launched mobile phones include multiple choices such as recording songs and voice messages and saving them as ringtones. Some of them also allow you to assign different ringtones for different incoming numbers, thus canceling out the need to look at your phone for knowing who is calling.

Downloading ringtones is not a difficult task, if you know what you want. All you need is just – "your phone"; Rest – the methods are listed above.
